Setting up a parent company

Searching for divisions of a parent company
In some cases, a customer may be a parent company with multiple sub companies or divisions. The setup of a parent and its divisions is useful when billing rates for sub companies are based on the parent, or when you want to perform credit checking based on all orders associated with a parent, instead of on orders for a specific Bill To. In CRM Right, a parent's sub divisions are called children or child companies.
On the Information tab of the company profile, you can designate a company as a parent, or you can select the parent for a sub company, that is, child.
You select the Parent check box, located in the Switches section of the tab, to identify a company as a parent.
You use the Div of Parent field, located in the Other section, to link a division or a sub company to its parent.

To show how parent/division relationships are illustrated on the Company tree, we used two companies in this example and changed the Bill To/Parent settings.

How the relationship is depicted
on the Company tree
Neither company has a parent/child relationship with any other company.
Impala Industries is marked as both a Parent and a Bill To. This is evident because it is shown on the second level beneath itself.
Empire Products does not have a parent/child relationship with any company.
Empire Products is a child of Impala Industries.
Impala Industries is a Parent, but is not marked as a Bill To. This is evident because it is not shown on the second level beneath itself.
Note: The system allows you to flag a company as both a Bill To and a parent (as well as shipper, consignee, etc.). This is because it is possible for a company to serve as a parent for other companies, and as a Bill To for itself.
