Using definitions as rate index restrictions
After you establish the trip or region definitions, you can use them as restrictions in a rate index. Trip and region definitions are not a primary determinant of whether a rate will be selected. The rating engine uses a specific hierarchy of rate index fields when determining the suitability of a rate for an order.
Note: For more information on the rate index hierarchy, see
How the system selects a billing rate.
When you first open the Edit Billing Rate Schedule Folder, note the Trip Type or Region field in the rate index.
To add a trip definition or regions as a restriction, click in the Trip Type or Region field in the index.
The field displays a drop-down list with three options:
N/A
Not applicable, which means no trip or region definition will be specified for this rate.
Trip Definition
When you select this option, the Trip Definit field is displayed. Select the trip definition ID.
Region
When you select this option, the Origin and Dest fields are shown. Specify the origin region and the destination region.
Notes:
1. The IDs listed are those you recorded when creating your definitions in the Trips and Regions Edit window.
2. The rating engine will use other index fields before it uses the Trip Definition or Region index entry to find applicable rates.
3. For information about using origin and destination regions to create rates, see
Setting up rate schedules based on regions.
