Linking a line haul-based accessorial rate to a primary rate
You link line haul-based accessorial rates to primary rates in the Declare Additional Charges window. You use the same method as you would other secondary rates. However, the sequence in which they are linked is very important for mileage-based line haul rates. If you pay for both loaded and empty miles, you must have a primary rate for loaded miles and a secondary rate for empty miles. If an accessorial is to be based on line haul pay, you must attach the secondary rate for that accessorial after you attach the secondary empty miles rate.
When the system creates a pay detail for a line haul-based accessorial, it adds the line haul pay together for its calculation. For example, note that in this list of secondary rates, the line haul for empty miles (rate #515) is attached before the percent of line haul for fuel surcharge (rate #557). With this sequence, the system will add the empty miles pay to the primary line haul pay before computing the percent of line haul pay.
Warning: If the line haul rate for empty miles was attached below the percent of line haul rate, the system would not include empty mile pay when calculating the line haul-based accessorial.
