What is a pay type?
A pay type, also known as a settlement type, represents an item for which a driver may be paid, or for which he receives reimbursement or a deduction. When you enter pay manually, or when you use the Compute function to auto calculate pay, the system uses pay types to creates pay details.
For each pay rate you set up, you must identify the pay type on which it is based. Pay types are categorized as primary or secondary.
A primary pay type is used for line haul pay rates. Examples of primary pay types include:
Route pay (mileage-based pay)
Flat
Trip settlement revenue (line haul pay based on a percentage of revenue)
Hourly pay
A secondary pay type is used for accessorials, reimbursements or deductions. Examples of secondary pay types include:
Stop pay
Cleaning
Hand loading
Hand unloading
Fuel surcharge
Escrow
This is an example of one way you could set up a pay type for Fuel Surcharge pay. The boxed fields indicate that it is based on miles.
This illustration shows a pay detail for which the Fuel Surcharge pay type was used. A pay detail consists of a pay type (Settlement Item), a quantity, a per-unit rate, and the resulting dollar total.
