Why is my position on the map incorrect or missing?

If you find that your position on the map is incorrect, here are some general points you should know about how CoPilot works with your device’s GPS receiver:

  • CoPilot REQUIRES the use of your device’s built in GPS receiver for navigation and will automatically use this to determine your current position while driving.

To check the current status of your device’s GPS reception, tap the main menu list. Tap on Settings and then GPS.

  • The GPS Status screen displays information relating to your current latitude and longitude position, the time and date, speed and elevation.

  • The Device OS controls the GPS Receiver, and that obtains the GPS fix. As an application provider, CoPilot asks for the current GPS coordinates from the Device OS.

General notes on receiving an accurate GPS location

  • To increase accuracy of GPS information, ensure the location, date and time are set correctly on the device.

  • To improve GPS signal reception, ensure the phone is positioned in an area free of obstacles.

  • Large objects such as cement walls, trees and tall buildings can sometimes interfere with the GPS signal.

  • CoPilot uses advanced positioning technology to continue to provide information even when you enter a tunnel. In this case, the icon will appear in the gallery mode.

  • You may not be able to receive a GPS signal while inside buildings.

  • CoPilot GPS uses a GPS feed directly from the device in order to obtain a GPS fix, however, when traveling several thousand miles away with your device, it can take longer to receive a GPS fix. It can help to have a data plan enabled to assist your device in obtaining a GPS fix more quickly over the Internet.

Tips

You can also try the following tips:

  • To acquire GPS signals, the device must have a direct and unobstructed view of the sky.

  • It is advisable to use some sort of mounted support to cradle the device while in a vehicle.

  • Ensure the GPS receiver of your device and/or location-based services are enabled.

  • Ensure the device is not in Airplane Mode.

  • Ensure you have enough mobile data. Although CoPilot does not require the use of data, your phone or tablet may need access to the mobile network to initially acquire a GPS fix. Turn off data roaming after acquiring a GPS fix.

  • Ensure the device’s battery is powered adequately.

  • If you can’t acquire a GPS fix within 10 minutes, the GPS receiver may not be working properly; reboot the device and try again.
