Find a rest stop while driving
|
This feature is available in CoPilot 11.2.0.930 or later for enterprise customers with truck licensing who can set configuration options in CoPilot. Contact us to learn more about how to get this feature for your fleet. |
A Break button can be added to the CoPilot navigation screen, allowing a driver to quickly search for a nearby rest stop with minimal distraction. This feature is turned off by default and must be enabled in Account Manager, under Configuration Settings.
This feature can be especially useful for drivers who are new to an area and may not be familiar with the locations of rest stops along their route. You can also set up company approved locations in ContentTools, for places such as approved parking areas. These places will appear in the search results when drivers tap the Break button.
Step 1: Enable the feature
To add the Break button on the CoPilot navigation screen, toggle on Enable Break Now, under CoPilot Preferences: Navigation in the Configuration Profiles you use for your fleet. Contact us if this setting is not available in your Account Manager.

CoPilot must be restarted on a device for the change to take effect. Once enabled, drivers can tap the Break button to find nearby rest stops along their route.
Step 2: Add company locations in ContentTools (optional)
The Break feature searches for rest stops, truck stops, and truck services in the Trimble database along the current route. If your fleet has custom places in ContentTools, each location marked in ContentTools as Approved CoPilot Break Location is also included in the search. This setting allows fleet managers to control which places appear as break locations for drivers.
When creating or editing a Custom Place in ContentTools, the Break OK setting is found under the Details panel. Select the checkmark to mark the place as an Approved CoPilot Break Location.
Places API
Fleets with access to the Places API can mark a location as an Approved CoPilot Break Location by including the breakApproved boolean parameter in the API request. If breakApproved is set to true, the place will be included in the search results when drivers tap the Break button in CoPilot.
Step 3: How a driver selects a break location
With the feature turned on, a Break button appears on the CoPilot screen during navigation. (Requires mobile internet connection, and a truck vehicle routing profile.) To find a rest stop:
-
Tap the Break button. CoPilot searches for rest stops, truck stops, or truck services along the current route. If your fleet has custom places in ContentTools, each location marked in ContentTools as an Approved CoPilot Break Location is also included in the search.

-
A Break Locations pop-up screen opens, showing the nearest rest stops along your current route.

-
Tap the arrow (1) to see more options. Tap Go (2) to navigate to the selected rest stop.
-
The rest stop is added as the next stop on your current route. If the pop-up times out (15 seconds), or the driver taps the close button, the pop-up will go away and no new stop will be added.

Search results
CoPilot uses the following criteria to determine which rest stops to show in the search results:
-
Searches start from the current location.
-
Only places within 1-mile air distance to the route path are considered.
-
A place can only add up to 5 miles to the current trip.
-
A maximum of 5 places are shown to the driver.
Hours of Service display
If your CoPilot workflow includes Hours of Service (HOS) tracking, the Break feature also displays the time remaining before your next required break. This information is based on your HOS settings and driving activity.
