Why has voice navigation changed on my Samsung devices?

CoPilot customers have recently reported that Text-to-Speech (TTS) voice instructions have either changed or no longer work on Samsung devices operating on Android 15 or later. This is believed to be due to new limitations on the ways third-party (non-Samsung) applications, including CoPilot, can access the native Samsung TTS engine. (Samsung and Android have not announced any changes.)

What can CoPilot users do?

Devices may now automatically use the Google TTS engine by default. While Google TTS provides the same features as Samsung TTS, its voice may sound different. This difference could cause drivers to mistakenly think there is an issue with CoPilot.

If you are experiencing missing or changed TTS voices on your CoPilot devices:

  • Verify you have a Samsung device running Android 15 or later.

  • On the device, navigate to Settings > General management > Text-to-speech.

  • Under Preferred engine, select the Speech Recognition and Synthesis from Google or another installed third-party TTS engine.

  • You may download another of the many TTS engines available from the Google Play Store.
