Understanding inside time versus outside time
The terms inside time and outside time describe the different methods you can use to count a trip’s hours.
Outside time: First arrival to last departure
Includes all time between the arrival time at the first stop and the departure time from the last stop. In this illustration, the outside time is 5 hours.
Inside time: First departure to last arrival
Includes all time between the departure time from the first stop and the arrival time at the last stop. In this illustration, the inside time is 3 hours:
