Identifying flat rate charge types
When the system applies a quantity-based rate schedule to an order, it normally uses the charge type displayed in the Charge field in the rate header. For example, it is common to use Freight (Distance) as the charge type for a mileage-based primary rate. If the rate schedule consists of multiple rates, you enter them in a rate table.
Sometimes a rate in a specific cell is an exception to the rule. For example, a contract may state that all rates are per-mile, but that deliveries in New York City will be billed at a flat rate. You can handle such an exception in a rate table by flagging a rate in the applicable cell as a flat rate. When the rate is applied to an order, the charge type specified in the rate schedule is replaced with the flat rate charge type.
By default, the system uses these charge types when it applies rates that are flagged as flat in a rate table:
Freight (Flat) (LHF) is used for a flat rate recorded in a primary rate schedule
Secondary Charge Flat (SCF) is used for a flat rate recorded in an accessorial rate schedule
