Using Windows shortcuts

All versions of Microsoft(r) Windows(r) support several shortcut keys. Every effort has been made to make sure TMWSuite shortcuts do not interfere with the operation of these standard Windows shortcuts. The following is a partial list of these shortcuts.

Moving between open applications and windows

These shortcuts can be used when you have multiple applications or windows opened.

Shortcut Function

ALT+TAB

Sometimes you may need to have multiple applications open at one time. To switch between them, press and hold the ALT key. Then press the TAB key. Continue to press TAB until Windows highlights the icon for the desired application. Then release the ALT key to display the application.

CTRL+TAB

or

CTRL+F6

It is possible to have multiple primary windows within an application open at one time. To switch from one primary window to another, press and hold the CTRL key while you press either the TAB key or the F6 key. Continue to press the TAB or the F6 key until the desired window becomes active, i.e., displays on top.

Notes:

  1. This shortcut will only allow you to switch between primary windows. If you have another type of window open in an application (e.g., the Notes window, the Asset Assignment dialog box, a warning or error message, etc.), you must close that window before you can switch to a primary window.

  2. If more than one primary window is open, a list of open primary windows will appear at the bottom of the Window menu.

Copying and moving data

You can use the cut, copy, and paste commands to enter data in TMWSuite.

Shortcut Function

CTRL+C

Copy - Copies the highlighted text to the clipboard.

Note: Previously, the CTRL+C shortcut key opened the Find Companies scroll window. Now, the shortcut key combination CTRL+ALT+C is used for that purpose.

CTRL+V

Paste - Inserts the cut or copied text at the cursor’s position, if the cursor is in a field that accepts manual entry.

CTRL+X

Cut - Removes the highlighted text and copies it to the clipboard.

Using other Windows shortcuts

These shortcuts allow you to perform mouse actions using just the keyboard.

Shortcut Function

DOWN ARROW

After you select a field that has a drop-down list, press this key to select the next value in the list. When you have reached the last value in the list, pressing this key has no effect.

Note: You can use the UP ARROW key to select the preceding value in the list. When you have reached the first value in the list, pressing this key has no effect.

ALT

Pressed by itself, the ALT key will select the menu on the far left side of the menu bar (for most applications, this will be the File menu). After pressing the ALT key, you can select menus and commands in one of two ways:

  • Press the RIGHT ARROW and LEFT ARROW keys to select other menus in the menu bar. After you select a menu, press the DOWN ARROW key to display the list of commands available for the currently selected menu. Press the DOWN ARROW key to move down the list. After you highlight a command, press the ENTER key.

  • An underscore appears beneath one letter in each menu; press the key for that character to display the menu’s list of available commands. Most commands in the list will also have an underscored character; press the key for that character to select that command.

ALT+DOWN ARROW

After you select a field that has a drop-down list, this shortcut opens the drop-down list. If the list is already open, this shortcut closes the list.

Note: You can also use the ALT+UP ARROW shortcut to perform this action.
