Chaining trips together

First available in: TMW Operations 2019.4

Requirements:

Your system must have access to the following:

  • The TruETA license

  • A database with TruETA and WorkCycle set up.

  • [TruETA]UseTripChaining=Y in your TTS50.

If you have questions, contact your system administrator.

By default, TruETA includes stop information from the driver’s current location to the location of the trip you are planning to determine the arrival time.

For example, during a shift, a driver is assigned to two trips. The system uses the driver’s current HoS and location to determine if a third trip you are planning for this driver can be delivered on time.

With Chaining Trips, the system accounts for time needed to complete planned trips between the current location and the trip you are planning. The system reviews the planned loads in order from the driver’s current location to the start of the trip you are planning. This allows TruETA to predict future deliveries more accurately.

For example, assume a driver is assigned to three trips. You are planning to add a fourth trip to the driver’s schedule. The system uses the driver’s current HoS, location, and time needed to complete existing stops between the current location and the trip you are planning. You can process a TruETA solution on the fourth trip to determine HoS and whether the driver can deliver that load on time.

This feature only applies to Driver 1.

Processing a solution for a future planned trip

To calculate the estimated delivery time for a future planned trip:

  1. Verify the driver has started the first trip in a chained trip series.

  2. In Trip Folder, plan another trip for the driver to complete.
Note: There must be at least one planned leg between the current trip and the trip you are planning.

  3. Go to Operations > Process TruETA solution.

  4. After TruETA generates the solution, click the TruETA tab.
The trip’s map, stops, estimated time of arrival at each stop, and required rest stops are listed.
