Setting up carrier groups

When you post a load for auction, you can specify which carriers to notify about the auction based on their carrier group assignments. For example, because the Bid Award module requires you to assign carriers to lanes, you could create carrier groups based on geographic location.

Setting up carrier group labels

You must create carrier group labels before you can assign carriers to groups. You can edit labels on the Edit User Definable Fields window (also known as the Label file).

  1. To access the window, go to Tools > Tools Maintenance > Edit User Definable Fields.

  2. In the Field Name field, select CarrierGroups.

  3. Click Retrieve.
Any existing carrier groups are listed in the grid. Entries that you add to the CarrierGroups label appear as options in the Carrier Group field of the Carrier Group Maintenance window.

For detailed information on setting up labels, see Using the label file to customize fields.

Assigning carriers to carrier groups

After you create the carrier groups in the label file, use this procedure to assign carriers to each carrier group.

  1. Go to Tools > Tools Maintenance > Carrier Group Maintenance.
The Carrier Group Maintenance window opens.

  2. In the Carrier Group field, select the carrier group to which you want to assign carriers.

  3. In the Carrier List, select the carrier(s) you want to include in the carrier group.

  4. Click Add.
The system moves the carrier(s) you selected to the Group Carriers list. These changes are saved automatically.

Removing carriers from carrier groups

If a carrier is incorrectly assigned to a group or its group assignment changes, you can remove the assignment. Follow this procedure to remove a carrier from a group in the Carrier Group Maintenance window.

  1. Go to Tools > Tools Maintenance > Carrier Group Maintenance.
The Carrier Group Maintenance window opens.

  2. In the Carrier Group field, select the carrier group from which you want to remove carriers.

  3. In the Group Carriers list, select the carrier(s) you want to remove from the carrier group.

  4. Click Remove.
The system moves the carrier(s) you selected to the Carrier List. These changes are saved automatically.
